Jill Donnelly, BM, FRCS (Eng), BA

Jill Donnelly studied Modern Languages at Oxford University before taking Medicine as a second degree at the University of Southampton, between 1984 and 1990. She undertook postgraduate surgical registrar (residency) training in South Africa and Sheffield, UK. Since 2004 she has been a Consultant Breast and General Surgeon at Hereford County Hospital, Hereford, UK and became Lead Clinician of the Breast Multidisciplinary Team there, in 2007.

Jill has extensive experience in developing educational and training collaboration between health professionals in low, middle and high income countries. In this capacity she has spent time in Ethiopia, Tanzania and, since 2003, has had an ongoing six-monthly commitment in Palestine at both under- and postgraduate levels. In the UK she is Deputy Chair of the International Development Committee of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. She has just finished a 5-year tenure as Surgical Editor of Tropical Doctor, a Royal Society of Medicine journal with a practical and broad clinical remit, which has the distinction of publishing peer-reviewed articles from more low and middle income countries than any other UK medical journal.

Currently, Jill is working to develop a formal commitment by the UK Association of Breast Surgeons to breast healthcare in a global context.
